EPW - H.R. Ekegrén, Geneva, split-seconds chronograph, 45mm, 18K gold OF original H.R. Ekegrén case marked for retailer J.W. Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia, locking slide at 11 to allow or prevent chronograph engagement, five-knuckle hinges, small Jurgensen-style lips, signed gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement with counterpoise, at least 24J, wheel satin nickel finish, s#77837 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 50.4 dwt (78.4 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good primary chronograph function, split-seconds initiates properly but reset of hand is frequently sluggish and occasionally incomplete needing an additional reset to fully come to position which is slightly imperfect with mild misalignment of hands, overhaul recommended for split-seconds reset, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, group of short scratches at perimeter of balance cock, plates with haze and some small spots, scattered micro-fine scratches; nearly flawless dial with few mild small fine scratches and pinpoint surface nicks; fine hands, areas of oxide and finish loss to hour, slight misalignment of sweep-seconds-hands, upper sweep-seconds-hand with some oxide to the decorative terminal elements of its tail, sweep-seconds-hands of differing color and differing styles of tail, subsidiary seconds-hand of mismatched color; case shows little wear, long horizontal scratch to lower rear, prominent shorter scratch to upper-right of rear, group of short scratches at upper-right perimeter of rear from slipped past openings, profuse micro-fine scratches to rear, dings to band at 1:30 and 4; tight bow, crown shows light wear with ridge break; good glass crystal though with a tendency to pop out when bezel is opened.
